Homer Douglas Stevens

My father, Homer Douglas Stevens (he always went by "Doug"), was born on October 6th 1915 in Cambridge, Ohio.  Raised on a small farm near Cambridge, his father was at various times a coal miner and foreman of a concrete manufacturing company.  Doug attended Brown High School in Cambridge and Ohio University in Athens, where he graduated with a B.S. in electrical engineering in 1940.  He married Ellen Virginia Caldwell on April 10th, 1943.  In Portsmouth, Ohio he worked for the Ohio Power Company, and in Portsmouth, Virginia at the Norfolk Navy Yard.  Doug also worked for Curtiss Wright Corp. in Columbus, Ohio before securing employment with General Dynamics (now Lockheed) in 1949.  Doug and Ellen relocated at this time to Fort Worth, Texas, along with daughters Carol and Gail.  This became a lasting residence, and where their son, Mark, was born in 1957.  Doug passed on May 5th, 2007 at the age of 91.

Here's Dad posing with flowers and a dog, probably the one named Mickey that he had mentioned over the years. This was the photo that appeared in Doug's senior high school annual.

Dad letting me (Mark Stevens) pass him on a go-kart track in Fort Worth, probably '68 or '69.
As with many young boys, I found it impossible to not act goofy when photographed! This is a larger hand-colored version of Doug's senior photo.

From the late '40s, here's dad taking my sisters Carol and Gail for a stroll.Carol and dad.Dad with baby Carol.
The building in the background is Maryview Hospital in Portsmouth, Virginia. It appears that the family lived in the apartments across the street right around the time that Carol was born.
